Housing Leopard Geckos
For housing a single leopard gecko a 10 gallon tank is ok. But if you want more than one you should get a 20 gallon tank. A 20 gallon tank will hold two or three leos.

There are many possible substrates for leos. I use fine sand, but would not recomend it for geckos under five inches because they can eat it and get sand impaction. Some other common substrates are Bed-A-Beast, Calci-Sand, newspaper, repti-carpet/astro turf, or moss.

You should also give the geckos a couple hiding places, at least one per gecko. These are places where they will hang out at during the day. You can use wood or rock in constructing these hiding places but make sure that they are sturdy and will not tumble over onto your gecko.

Put in a waterdish for your leos. But when selecting a waterdish, make sure that it doesn't hold the water where your leos can't see it. I have found that Cool-Whip or Margerine covers work good. Some people also put in a dish of calcium powder in the tank for there geckos to use. Glass ashtrays work good for this.

There are several ways to heat your leo setup. One method is to put an under the tank heating pad under the enclosure. This method works good with enclosures with one inch of substrate or less. When choosing the size of a heating pad, choose one that only covers 25-35% of the tank. It is important that most of the floor is unheated to allow your geckos to thermoregulate.
Another way to heat your enclosure is to use incandescent lights. You may put these in a reflector type bulb holder and rest them on the screentop. Most of the time 40 to 60 watt bulbs work the best. When using incandescent lights put them on the same side as the under tank heatingpad.

The last way and probobly the least too is hot rocks. I would not reccomend hot rocks because they can get to hot. Try to stick with one of the first two ways listed above.
